The realisation of the Forum – a building in Groningen by NL architects – has brought into being a new type of public space that blurs the traditional boundaries between cultural functions: the Forum is not a library, nor a museum, a cinema, nor a conference centre. In the same way, Forum Groningen is not an architecture book, magazine, newspaper, periodical or review. It is a collection of diverse texts, images and illustrations that transcends a classical architecture publication. The series of visual rhymes with which the book begins is the prelude to a search for the design of the Forum: for its shape, structure, materials, construction, experience and its place in the city. Although exuberant in composition, the stories are carefully intertwined and arranged in three parts: city, design and use.
